Message from the COS Alumni Chapter Board – 2015 Update

Thank you to everyone who voted on the new College of Science (COS) alumni newsletter name, unveiled in the July newsletter as The Catalyst! We all learned in class that a catalyst increases the rate of a reaction without being used up itself, and that is what we intend to be for COS alumni. The COS alumni chapter board hopes that this new avenue for news and events will help precipitate many positive connections as well as exciting opportunities to become more involved with your COS alumni chapter.

Alumni Chapter Board

This year, Francis Aguisanda, BS ‘14 Biology, joins the board in the role of treasurer. Additionally, the board is actively working with Elizabeth Carter and Ted Wynn, the college’s development officers, to identify and grow corporate and community partnerships and college funding. With the expansion of our team on the alumni chapter board, we are ready to get to work!

Getting Involved

Part of the work we are doing this year includes reconnecting with fellow alumni and growing the College of Science network. We hope to see you, and your friends and family, at the events we have planned, including our monthly happy hours and Alumni Weekend events.

The monthly COS Science Happy Hours, hosted every last Tuesday of the month, are a great way to connect with College of Science grads and friends in the sciences. Visit for current and future event details. We have hosted three happy hours so far, in Tysons Corner, Rockville and Washington, D.C. And have been joined by over 25 alumni in a variety of fields including alumni working at the NIH, Meso Scale Diagnostics, Supernus, the Smithsonian Institution, and USGS.

Alumni Weekend 2015

Lastly, we are gearing up for Alumni Weekend with an event hosted by the COS alumni chapter called the Science of Beer. We will taste delicious brews from a local brewery while learning the science behind the taste and brewing of beers.
