Climate Dynamics Student Work Featured by Park Service

Climate Dynamics doctoral student Ralph Getzandanner’s work was featured at the National Park Service website: Weather Data Analysis for the National Mall and Memorial Park. Getzandanner analyzed weather records going back more than a century. The article shows Washington and the surrounding National Capital Region warming by nearly 4 degrees F (2 degrees C). The warming is not only due to global warming of the Earth but also from increased urbanization, which strengthens an “Urban Heat Island” effect known to occur in cities.
