What is a Science Slam
At Mason, a science slam challenges young scientists to prepare a presentation of fewer than 10 minutes, about their scientific research, for a non-expert audience using any entertaining format they wish. The goal is to solicit the most laughter and applause from the audience, though scientific integrity and accuracy is expected and appreciated.
The guiding vision for the Mason Science Slam student organization is to help College of Science student researchers become better communicators of their work.
Apply to be a Slammer!
Mason Science Slam is still in need of sponsorships to fulfill our current mission: To enhance the individual student experience, by helping to foster a more engaged and welcoming science community at Mason through events organized by Mason Science Slam.
Slam events provide a venue for students to see what their colleagues in other units are working on, and allows them to practice their networking skills with other students, faculty, and potential employers in an informal setting.
Our slams are intended to provide a holistic experience; catering to students’ need to interact with their peers in a social and academic learning environment, and also their need to identify and interact with potential employers, thereby assuaging fears of not being able to find an internship while completing their coursework, or a fitting entry point into the workforce after graduation.
How Can Sponsors Help?
Sponsorship support can be provided in many ways, including:
- be a judge
- reserve a table for your organization (recognized attendance at Science Slam competitions)
- cover event catering costs
- contribute to attendee SWAG bags
- advertise in the event program
- contribute towards our program evolution: science cafés, organization visits, community engagement, and so much more…
- Whatever you think up, we can work it in!
