Math Professor Emelianenko Receives Oak Ridge Powe Award

Assistant Professor Maria Emelianenko has won a Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide seed money for research by junior faculty at Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. For the 2008-09 academic year, the Powe Award Committee reviewed 118 applications and selected 30 winners. Dr. Emelianenko was one of 2 winners in the area of Mathematics/Computer Science.
Dr. Emelianenko joined the College of Science Department of Mathematical Sciences in August, 2007. Since then, she has won a Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) fellowship, and won an NSF Research for Undergraduates (REU) grant as a co-Principal Investigator. As an applied mathematician in non-linear systems and high performance computing she has brought her talents to a wide range of problems.
