Professor and Students Win J. Shelton Horsley Research Award
Dr. Monique van Hoek and two students have been awarded the J. Shelton Horsley Research Award of the Virginia Academy of Science for their paper “Initial Report of in vitro Biofilm Formation in Francisella: A Role for an Orphan Response Regulator†by M. Durham-Colleran, A.B. Verhoeven, and M.L. van Hoek.
The J. Shelton Horsley Research Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Virginia Academy of Science for original research. The Horsley Award recipient is selected through a peer-reviewed competition for an outstanding research paper to be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Virginia Academy of Science. This award honors the work of Richmond surgeon, philanthropist, and Academy founder J. Shelton Horsley, M.D., who established the Virginia Academy of Science Research Grants Program in 1928.The presentation of an engraved certificate and a monetary award are a highlight of the Annual Meeting.
