The meeting was convened at 2:05 PM by Allan Falconer.

Dean’s Comments

  • College had a good first year
  • Added three undergraduate and one graduate degree programs and 1 certificate
  • Proposed degrees include a MS in Geospatial, PhD in Physics, a minor in Forensics with a MS and PhD to come in the future
  • Groundbreaking for the Bioscience Research Laboratory in Prince William held this morning
  • Governor cut the budget 5% permanently after the start of the fiscal year

May 10, 2007 Minutes – Approved

Business Arising

  • COS Faculty Standing Rules – Promotion and Tenure Committee were approved (see attachment with revisions underlined)

Elections for COS Faculty Committees

  • Two at-large members for the P&T Committee – Rainald Lohner and George Taylor** were elected

Committee Reports

  • Nominating Committee - no report
  • Curriculum Committee – met once and Igor Griva, David Singman and Barry Haack are the new members from CDS, Math and Geography
  • Grievance Committee – one grievance was received and resolved and the matter closed
  • Promotion and Tenure Committee – all recommendations were forwarded
  • Executive Council – Al Torzilli is the new chair and Barry Haack is the secretary who will also serve as chair in the chair’s absence. The committee will meet the first Thursday of every month. The Dean will attend the first meeting.

** Dr Taylor is not available to attend meetings until the next calendar year. Dr Fryxell requested a replacement. The nominations committee has responded with the nomination of Tom Wanner of the Math Department and unless I receive others before the close of business on Thursday October 11th I will close nominations and declare him elected
