Molecular and Microbiology

The Department of Molecular and Microbiology at George Mason University focuses on molecular, cellular and microbial biology with an emphasis on applied research. The Master’s of Science in Biology concentrates on general biological sciences, microbiology, molecular biology, systematic and evolutionary biology, bioinformatics and computational biology.The Biodefense program is affiliated with the George University National Center for Biodefense & Infectious Diseases. The main objective of the program will be to train students for employment in the area of biodefense in academia, industry, and government. The program provides students with a background in the foundations of science and technology of biodefense, threat analysis of biological weapons, and the specialized areas of medical defense, including engineering defense, non-proliferation in biodefense, and counter-terrorism/law-enforcement of biodefense.
