Defense Announcement Submission Form
- Please complete and submit this form at least two weeks prior to your defense.
- Announcements that are not received in a timely manner may not make it into a weekly Friday defense announcement email.
- All completed submissions will be posted to the COS calendar, Facebook page, and Twitter account.
- If any subsequent updates are made to the defense (date, time, location, etc.), inform us via email to cosdefen@gmu.edu. Updates will then be made directly to the COS calendar, but will not be added to the weekly Friday defense announcement email.
Notice of University Policy: AP.6.10.8 Doctoral Defense
As soon as all degree requirements have been satisfied, including completion of the doctoral dissertation, the doctoral candidate may request a doctoral defense. Approval for the defense is given by the doctoral dissertation committee, department or program chair, and relevant dean or director of the school, college, or institute. Notice of a defense must be circulated to the university community two weeks before the defense date. The public defense should demonstrate the candidate’s maturity of judgment and intellectual command of the chosen branches of the field of study.
