Foreign Language
Students earning a BA degree in LAHS or COS must demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency in one foreign language. George Mason offers Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian and Spanish. Students can demonstrate proficiency in three ways:
1. by completing one foreign language course at the 202 level or above; (Students with no prior experience with the language should register for 101 or 109. Students continuing a foreign language should take the Foreign Language Placement Test. )
2. by achieving a satisfactory score on an approved proficiency test;
3. by presenting for admission to George Mason University a score of 230 or above on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and a 4.5 on the TOEFL essay for students whose native language is not English.
